1. Temporarily Disable Antivirus and Firewall settings (Enable once update is complete)

3. Setup Clean Boot in MSCONFIG and Run Windows Update

4. Rename SoftwareDistribution and catroot2 Folders. To do this we will need to stop Windows Update services.

Open Command Prompt with Admin rights

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

Now we can rename folders

ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 catroot2.old

Once done restart Servers

net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

5. Navigate to the following registry key:

ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionWindowsUpdateOSUpgrade

Look for AllowOSUpgrade and set value to 1

6. Run System File Checker

Open Command Prompt with Admin rights

SFC /SCANNOW

Once complete type:

  1. Unfortunately these steps didn't resolve my continuing issues with installing feature updates from Microsoft. Actually nobody from Microsoft representatives could help me as well 🙁
    I always have this error:
    0x8007042B – 0x4000D
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation
I never can install any feature updates regular way (from 1803 till 2004), I can only install them when I do factory reset and remove all data ant apps from my PC…
Please let me know what can be a reason and how to fix it.

  3. When I go to "Choose what you keep" stage, I got this message : "We can't tell if your PC is ready to continue installing Windows 10. Try restarting Setup." I tried restarting the setup, running it as an Administrator, turning off my Antivirus and disconnecting my internet. It's still not working.

  4. Thanks for the video. Was upgrading WIndows 7 to Windows 10 on a Panasonic CF54. Kept hitting a blank screen with a cursor about 1/3 of the way through. Even our IT was stumped. The MSCONFIG trick and disabling WIFI and updates worked. Much obliged.

  13. I've tried a few of these (turning off all the start up items and antivirus/firewall etc) to try and upgrade from Win7 to 10 and each time I get as far as it spending hours installing and then when it is finally booting up, at the last minute before it gets to my login screen it comes up with 'undoing all the changes made to the computer' and then I log in and it tells me that there was an error '8007001F x20006 the upgrade failed at the SAFE_OS phase during the REPLICATE_OC operation'. i'm at the point now where I am thinking of restoring the computer to factory settings to try and install win10 from there. Any ideas or advice would be great.

  19. Some times it will not update due to the hardware mainly the video card is not supported ..what might run under Windows 7 or other versions of Windows 10 MS changed some code that now requires a higher performance video card
